TY - JOUR T1 - SUpplementation in acute lung injury—reply AU - Rice TW, Wheeler AP, Thompson B Y1 - 2012/01/11 N1 - 10.1001/jama.2011.1985 JO - JAMA SP - 144 EP - 146 VL - 307 IS - 2 N2 - In OMEGA, the supplement was provided as intermittent boluses to separate its effects from the overall quantity of enteral feeds. If the supplement had improved outcomes, the bolus design would have allowed treatment of patients unable to tolerate continuous or full enteral feedings, an important feature given that up to one-third of patients in previous trials were excluded for not tolerating the intervention. The design also allowed us to test for an interaction between OMEGA and EDEN. Although no interaction with EDEN was found (P = .47), early stopping of OMEGA limited us to detecting only a large interaction; we cannot exclude the possibility of a small interaction.
