The third edition of Tropical Infectious Diseases: Principles, Pathogens and Practice is one of the latest additions to the Elsevier Expert Consult series, which includes more than 300 available medical titles accessible online as well as in print. The first noticeable change to Tropical Infectious Diseases is that it is now presented as a single volume rather than 2 volumes, which is made possible, at least in part, by making all of the references for each chapter available online at ExpertConsult.com. The availability of such a textbook remains important, because much of the world's population continues to be at risk for tropical diseases, and millions of individuals continue to die from such diseases each year. The focus of this textbook is infectious diseases, so readers wanting more information on noninfectious aspects of tropical medicine will need to refer to one of the other major texts currently available, such as Manson's Tropical Diseases.
