From April 2009 to April 2011, I had the privilege of serving as National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in the Obama administration. I was charged with implementing new legislation (the so-called HITECH law) whose purpose is to create a nationwide, interoperable private and secure electronic health information system. What follows are some personal reflections on my two years in government.
