TY - JOUR T1 - HEalth risks of latino children AU - Davis JH Y1 - 2002/10/23 N1 - 10.1001/jama.288.16.1981 JO - JAMA SP - 1981 EP - 1983 VL - 288 IS - 16 N2 - To the Editor: Dr Flores and colleagues1 state: "Among children aged 2 to 4 years, Mexican Americans are more likely than white and blacks to have caries, untreated disease, and decayed and filled tooth surfaces." This is certainly true of the Hispanic children born and raised in this country but is in striking contrast to the children of all ages who, in my experience, are newly arrived from Mexico and have teeth that are generally beautiful and free from caries. I suspect that the difference lies in the greater use of sweets and juice bottles in this country.
