We acknowledge that there is evidence of a beneficial effect of pindolol in combination with paroxetine on depression.1 Of the trials in our meta-analysis, only the STOP-Hypertension (Swedish Trial in Old Patients with Hypertension) trial2 tested pindolol. Although there was no significant difference in the risk of depression between the treatment groups, the sample size was too small to confirm (or disprove) any protective effect.
