Therefore, we can provide the following information. While no serious AEs determined by the investigator to be related to gabapentin were reported, 10 patients (9%) in the gabapentin group reported a total of 17 serious AEs and 5 patients (4%) in the placebo group reported a total of 5 serious AEs ( P=.19). For the gabapentin treatment group, the serious AEs consisted of 1 case each of congestive heart failure, cellulitis, myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular accident, unintentional injury, intestinal obstruction, cholecystitis, peritonsillar abscess, and 2 cases each of pneumonia, nausea, vomiting, and cholelithiasis (1 case accompanied by elevated γ-glutamyltransferase and alkaline phosphatase levels). The group that received placebo reported 1 case each of unintentional injury, syncope, carcinoma of the lung, exacerbation of depression, and cerebrovascular accident.
