However, we noted that, "Patients in the control group who were not prescribed lipid-lowering drugs during the study showed over 3 times as much progression in percent diameter stenosis as those who were."1 The reason that so many cardiac events occurred in both groups is that these patients had severe CAD. We did not find a correlation between triglyceride levels and cardiac events; also, triglycerides were higher in the experimental group, yet these subjects showed far fewer events. Only 3 patients smoked in the control group, and there were no significant differences in fasting blood sugar between groups.
