To the Editor: Drs Kamath and Jense1 brought attention to the urgent need for increasing the global health workforce. However, we do not agree that a US global health service corps is the best answer. This approach, which was first proposed in 2005,2- 3 would rely on costly, transient, and foreign health professionals rather than building local capacity. It would place US health professionals abroad while the United States imports thousands of health workers annually.
