In Reply: Although we mentioned CT scans specifically within the title of our Commentary, we stress that this issue is also relevant for other procedures involving ionizing radiation, such as coronary angiography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, and radiation oncology treatments. A recent study by Einstein et al1 on patients undergoing MPI examinations highlighted that the cumulative exposures can indeed be high in some patients (in their study, 31.4% received an estimated cumulative dose from all medical sources of greater than 100 mSv, well within the range atomic bomb survivors experienced).
