RT Journal T1 COmpend of the practice of medicine. JF Journal of the American Medical Association JO Journal of the American Medical Association YR 1899 FD December 2 VO XXXIII IS 23 SP 1440 OP 1440 DO 10.1001/jama.1899.02450750060030 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1899.02450750060030 AB That a work has passed to the sixth edition is evidence that it meets a want, whether the latter be an essential one or not. In the present ease we have a book that will be equally as convenient to the "cramming" student as to the busy practitioner, for handy reference when larger works are not convenient. There are times when it can be useful, and it appears to be on the whole as good in its special way as any of its class, and this edition will undoubtedly be as well received as were the earlier ones. There are some omissions, and the section on mental diseases is but a very brief and oddly classified account of some of these disorders, but as a whole the work gives a fair general coup d'oeil of the practice of medicine, not, of course, a detailed or complete one.
