    —No little popular interest has been aroused in New York by the announcement promulgated by Quarantine Officer Doty of the discovery of a serum which is believed to be prophylactic against yellow fever and may be considered to have curative value. This has become known through the announcement which Dr. Doty gave to the daily press, for the medical pronouncement has yet to be made in some one of the professional papers.The gist of the discovery set forth by Dr. Doty appears to be that his bacterial assistant, Dr. C. B. Fitzpatrick, has succeeded in isolating a germ or micro-organism from certain cases of yellow fever which were detained at the quarantine station on Swinburne Island in 1897, and that from the cultures of this germ he has produced an efficient serum.In this announcement Dr. Doty rather detracts from the
