On the other hand, it must be conceded that the gastro-intestinal tract is the portal of entry in a not inconsiderable number of cases. It is generally believed that in children the bowel suffers most commonly from tuberculosis, and the explanation is found in the large use by them, as food, of a ready medium for conveying tubercle bacilli, namely, milk. It is known that the milk of tuberculous animals may contain the bacilli, even in the absence of a lesion of the udder or teats. The recognition of the disease in such animals is, therefore, of the highest importance, and when discovered the milk should not be used for food. The negative results of a single
