When these are of a voluminous and exhaustive character the purchase of revised editions is often a matter of very considerable expense; but there are, fortunately, less pretentious works which serve an admirable purpose while recommending themselves to the physician, by reason of their comparative inexpensiveness. The present edition of Biddle's well-known treatise is of such a character. It is a well balanced book and is thoroughly modern. Shorn of all that is redundant in the way of botanical descriptions and explanations of pharmaceutical and chemical preparations, and presenting concise accounts of the principal physiological actions of the remedies described, it affords one most valuable and entertaining reading.
