The director, Dr. Gaylord, has taken the opportunity to review the course and achievements of cancer research in the last decade, which practically covers the existence of the New York Cancer Laboratory, and shows that the advance in this sphere of knowledge, to which his laboratory has made important contributions, has substantially confirmed the theory of the in fectivity of cancer to the support of which the early efforts of the laboratory were especially devoted. Several recent observations indicate that this theory will soon bear practical fruit. The discovery of cage infection, and the report of small endemics of animal cancer, as well as the peculiar grouping brought to light by a study of the geography of human cancer, indicate a contagiousness of the disease which makes a certain amount of isolation prudent
