It should be recollected that he comes before the public in this spectacular way after about a quarter of a century of comparative obscurity in which there are no records of any such unusual performances. He had been simply taking care of himself in the interval, and now comes out to show what a man can do after passing the psalmist's limit of human life. Probably many other men with like training and temperate habits could somewhat approximate his record.
