AB This pamphlet gives a good account of the character and reactions of the proteins, of the products of their decomposition and the conception of their constitution obtained by this method. The various attempts at synthesis are described and the results achieved are detailed. The hope is expressed that eventually the synthesis of proteins as they exist in the organism will become possible and that in the gradual progress we shall arrive at a thorough knowledge, not only of the constitution and properties of the proteins themselves, but also of those intermediate products of their decomposition which constitute the toxins and antitoxins that play so large a part in the pathogenesis and therapy of disease.
