AB MANY LONG-TIME admirers of the fine art covers and accompanying essays that for years have graced the pages of the Journal of the American Medical Association have often requested a collection of JAMA cover art and essays in a glossy, coffee table-style book.Now this request has been answered with The Art of JAMA—a collection featuring 100 covers originally published between 1974 and 1987, selected by M. Therese Southgate, MD, who wrote the accompanying essays that discuss the artist and the work. The book is copublished by the AMA and Mosby-Year Book Inc, St. Louis, Mo.Although today's readers strongly identify JAMA with its art covers, for decades The Journal's cover featured only a table of contents.
