AB This is much more than a textbook of surgery, it is a complete system for teaching medical students in their required surgery clerkship. It is comparatively brief and is intended to be read in its entirety by the student. A set of 35-mm slides is included for use by the teacher. These are copies of the line drawings and roentgenograms from the text and are very well done. In addition, videotapes for teaching surgical procedures and skills are available (Surgical Skills 1, 2, 3, 4, four videocassettes, $780; the entire package is $1950), along with computed problems to teach clinical decision making. The instructor also has available a bank of examinations, both oral and written.The initial chapters are on general topics such as fluid and electrolyte balance, nutrition, hemorrhage, shock, wound healing, and infections.
