    Having been used as a reference by Drs Paisley and Lauer1 in their article in the April 1 issue about facial injuries due to pet ferrets, I would like to clarify a few matters.2First, babies and small children should never be left alone with any pet, for the sake of both pet and child. A parent who allows a ferret to run freely about the house when a child is also running about unsupervised is not being fair to either and is asking for trouble. The same goes for kittens, puppies, and adults of both species.I would also ask why there is this hysteria over ferrets. In January, a child in southern Arizona had a sizable chunk taken out of her face while feeding a horse. Horses are far more dangerous than ferrets, dogs, or other pets because of their size and nature;
