But single-authored texts also vary according to the interests and experience of the author. In the case of this text, however, the unevenness is worthy of comment.Dr Coulson's chapters are among the best. Some of the others badly needed a firm leader and a ruthless editor and did not seem to have such attention available. As examples, in most chapters references later than 1983 are uncommon except for studies by the author of the chapter. Within a chapter the same material may be discussed in more than one place, to no apparent end. Controversial material is not referenced thoroughly in places. The size of a tumor is given as "1 ml."
