    I am delighted to respond to the letters by Drs Atlee and Rubenstein. The pride of one and concern of the other are commendable and understandable.The original stone has been restored, but is not removable from the interior monument wall. Thought was given to extensive stone cutting to remove the original, but the National Park Service historical custodians feared that the original appearance of the wall would be distorted by the procedure. Their charge is to maintain the original design and intent of the many commemorative stones within the monument. A duplicate of the original will be fashioned from a mold prepared by the sculptor and will be displayed at AMA headquarters in Chicago.The choice of the Girodet painting as a theme for the AMA stone might indeed seem from today's perspective disappointing.
