RT Journal A1 Finch WR, Strottman M T1 ACute adverse reactions to ibuprofen in systemic lupus erythematosus JF JAMA JO JAMA YR 1979 FD June 15 VO 241 IS 24 SP 2616 OP 2618 DO 10.1001/jama.1979.03290500024015 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1979.03290500024015 AB Three young women with systemic lupus erythematosus who were given ibuprofen for arthritis voluntarily discontinued taking the drug. On reinstitution of therapy, profound hypotension, fever, and headaches developed within hours, without other identifiable cause. A possible relationship to salicylate intolerance was considered. Because of these apparent side effects, we stress caution in the use of ibuprofen in systemic lupus erythematosus, particularly if there is any history of salicylate intolerance.(JAMA 241:2616-2618, 1979)
