AB To the Editor.— 
    For Inlow (241:239, 1979) to suggest on the basis of a series of only two cases that squamous cell carcinoma of the nail bed is best treated by x-ray therapy, rather than amputation, is unacceptable. The series of 20 cases reported by Attiyeh et al (241:262, 1979) indicates that radiation was a "substantive predisposing factor" to subungual squamous cell carcinoma. Of three cases of invasive subungual carcinoma in my practice that required amputation during the past five years, two had recurred three and seven years after previous radiation therapy.
