The series of 20 cases reported by Attiyeh et al (241:262, 1979) indicates that radiation was a "substantive predisposing factor" to subungual squamous cell carcinoma. Of three cases of invasive subungual carcinoma in my practice that required amputation during the past five years, two had recurred three and seven years after previous radiation therapy.
