AB Ketamine Still Called Safe, Effective Anesthetic 
    Continuing clinical studies indicate ketamine hydrochloride is a safe and effective anesthetic, three investigators told a press conference at the San Francisco meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists."We believe ketamine is the safest drug that can be used for the cardiac catheterization of children, as well as for open heart surgery to correct congenital lesions," said Guenter Corssen, MD, chairman of the anesthesiology department at the University of Alabama College of Medicine, Birmingham.Dr. Corssen's colleagues are John B. Dillon, MD, and C. Ronald Stephen, MD. Dr. Dillon is chairman of the anesthesiology department at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center.
