The rarity of this observation warrants this brief report.Report of a Case:  A 47-year-old white man, at 25 years of age, had pain, swelling, tenderness, and heat in many of the peripheral joints. Over the years, the symptoms gradually and progressively increased in severity, and crippling deformities of rheumatoid arthritis developed in the joints of both hands and in some of the other peripheral joints. Subcutaneous nodules appeared over many bony prominences. The patient became progressively incapacitated, and since 1962, he had been unable to work. In May 1968, an infection in the right middle ear developed, complicated by mastoiditis, and the patient was admitted to the hospital.
