This technique was a modification of a commercial instrument that in turn was an attempt to partially obviate the strain-gauge.1An even simpler method is possible and consists of an aneroid manometer attached to the rubber connection of an intravenous set which in turn is fitted into a vena tube that is attached to the side arm of a three-way stopcock. Flushing with heparin and saline solution must be carried out just before turning the circuit to the manometer. Protecting the manometer with a finger cot fitted in a syringe has not been found necessary. This is not an original method and I do not know who first used it. I have found it quite helpful in monitoring patients during aortography (Figure).
