AB With the increasing involvement of government in the health care system, and with the public eye focused on the adequate delivery of the best possible health care to all segments of the growing population, the participation of the practicing physician in continuing medical education is becoming more important.Many factors can influence a physician's efforts to keep abreast of the latest and best in knowledge and skill. Rewards on the one hand, and penalties on the other, have been considered as part of the effort to induce physicians to maintain competence by continuing medical education. But, while it is desirable that more physicians participate, it is also to be hoped that their patient-care activity will not be reduced or disrupted thereby.Of late, interest has been growing in relating the physician's continuing education more to his daily needs.
