While blindness would, of course, be a handicap in such a career, it need not be an absolute bar. Pediatricians are uniquely qualified by reason of training and attitude for positions in this field. Opportunities are better, of course, in those states that have medically, rather than educationally, oriented programs for the retarded.I would be delighted to consider this man for this position on my staff. After a period of not more than two years, I would guarantee him that he would be fully qualified to serve as a superintendent of a similar institution regardless of his defect.
