The patient demonstrated minimal thyroid dysfunction with virilization as the major clinical manifestation of drug toxicity. Virilization was attributed to a disturbance in ovarian steroidogenesis. Evaluation of ovarian function should be undertaken in all women who continue to receive the drug for prolonged periods.
