Consideration should be given to spinal cord trauma after breech delivery in any stillborn, neonatal death, or paraplegic neonate. Myelography will often suggest the diagnosis of a spinal cord injury. The most frequent direct cause of spinal cord injury associated with delivery is excessive longitudinal traction applied to the fetus.
