AB Respiratory arrest occurring within minutes of a dose of intravenously administered heroin was successfully treated with simple resuscitative measures. Sudden death from heroin is poorly understood. This case points to a mechanism primarily involving respiratory rhythm. The disturbance is of a very transient nature and differs from respiratory depression from overdose.
