A greater danger, in my opinion, is the failure of surgeons to request the help of pathologists because of an unfamiliarity with available techniques. I don't agree that a physician should not be knowledgeable about a "procedure that basically belongs to another specialty." There would be fewer poor clinical judgments if all of us had a practical knowledge of the techniques used to produce laboratory reports of all kinds.The saying "Nothing is as old and tired as yesterday's news" is pertinent to the practice and teaching of clinical medicine. Instant pathology reports would involve pathologists more completely and personally in clinical care, and in my opinion, interest more young men in
