AB Today we eliminate a minor but real annoyance. For decades The Journal has used a dual system of page numbering, to the consternation and confusion of at least a few readers.One system, "issue pagination," necessitated the numbering of every page of every issue, beginning with page 1 each week. The numbers appeared at the bottom of the page, through the advertising sections, scientific contributions, and medical news.The second system required the placing of numbers at the top of each page in the scientific section only. In this method of "volume pagination" the numbering was consecutive from week to week throughout a volume rather than beginning from "1" with each issue. Thus the pages in the advertising sections had one page number, those in the scientific section two numbers, one at the top and one at the bottom.
