AB The American School Health Association has had very close association with the American Medical Association for a long time. As far back as 1911, a Joint Committee on Health Problems in Education of the National Education Association and the A. M. A. was created to increase interest in the school health program. That same year the Department of Health Education was organized in the A. M. A., and a significant part of the work of the Department has been in the field of school health. The most extensive of the school health activities of the A. M. A. was the creation of the fitness division in the Department of Health Education in 1946, to be concerned chiefly with such problems and employment of a professional consultation staff consisting of a physician and an educator.
