Those who fall into the cancerophobia classification can accept reassurance and regain normal status. Those who present the delusion of cancer are unable to accept reassurance and become increasingly anxious. In this second group, need for psychiatric treatment may be overlooked even when it has become urgent. It is important to differentiate between the two groups.
