AB There are two types of patients who consult physicians in connection with the fear of having cancer and in whom malignancy cannot be detected. Those who fall into the cancerophobia classification can accept reassurance and regain normal status. Those who present the delusion of cancer are unable to accept reassurance and become increasingly anxious. In this second group, need for psychiatric treatment may be overlooked even when it has become urgent. It is important to differentiate between the two groups.
