Much of the text consists of the original work of several contributors. From their experience with chronic bronchitis at Brompton Hospital since 1950 the authors present their views on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of this distressing and often killing disease. The book begins with a discussion of the mortality and morbidity of chronic bronchitis and proceeds to the clinical pattern of the disease, which is discussed at some length. There is an excellent chapter on pathology, giving a historical review and following it with a discussion of the normal anatomy of the bronchial tree, before going into the pathological findings of the disease throughout its course. There are some excellent colored pictures of pathological slides as well as many
