RT Journal T1 A short practice of surgery JF Journal of the American Medical Association JO Journal of the American Medical Association YR 1959 FD June 27 VO 170 IS 9 SP 1134 OP 1134 DO 10.1001/jama.1959.03010090124039 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1959.03010090124039 AB When each new edition of an accepted work shows continued growth, as this has done, it indicates the need for such a pithy and practical book. Drs. Bailey and Love are to be congratulated on this excellent presentation. They have kept in step with the march of surgical progress. For example, those chapters dealing with the thyroid, other ductless glands, the liver, and the stomach have been rewritten completely. There is a new chapter on fluid and electrolyte balance and one on radiotherapy. The chapter on electrolytic balance is especially good. The illustrations beautifully enhance the easily readable text. This book can be recommended unreservedly to students, interns, residents, surgeons, and nurses interested in the practice of surgery.
