AB In attempting to present a relatively clear and useful summary of the available information and existing problems in the field of reproduction, the authors have succeeded remarkably well, despite the admitted complexity of the subject matter and the fact that research involving some aspects has been extremely fruitful during the past few decades. Among the topics covered in separate chapters are the genetics of reproduction, embryology of the reproductive system, pituitary and hypothalamus, mammary gland development and function, and the dynamics of endocrinology. The editor and authors have spent much time and effort in providing numerous references to support their conclusions and to provide source material for those who are interested in exploring certain problems in further detail. The material is well integrated and chapter delineation is good, despite inherent difficulties in achieving this when various authors contribute on similar subjects.
