Like the first volume, it is a huge compilation of scientific reports, containing a remarkable amount of data which would be obtained with difficulty under ordinary circumstances. Detailed descriptions are given of the physiologic and chemical properties, extraction methods and assay methods of these hormones. The material is presented in great detail and includes practically all methods for extraction of the various hormones, chemical procedures for their purification and synthesis and assay technics that have been published. For this reason it is an invaluable source book for the investigator in the field of endocrinology. The material, however, is not critically evaluated by the author and contains in detail abstracts of numerous reports of questionable value, demonstrating that the author either has little insight as to the actual worth of much of the material or else is
