AB An "Anatomy of the Newborn" should be a welcome contribution not only to anatomists but to obstetricians and pediatricians as well. Bellelli's book represents one of the first attempts to gather the hitherto scattered data from original articles, textbooks of anatomy and handbooks. The bibliography comprises 163 titles, most of which refer to contributions by Italian authors. The pertinent literature is fairly considered throughout the book, although there are certain omissions. For instance, Scammon and Calkin's valuable data on body dimensions of the newborn are not included. One misses a consideration of specific growth rates and of the relative position of the newborn with respect to prenatal and postnatal growth rates of the body as a whole or of the various systems. Only the general changes in the major proportions between birth and adulthood are discussed. The largest part of the book constitutes a compilation and discussion of previously published
