He said at that time, furthermore, that a better understanding of etiology, pathogenesis and function would require a more detailed microscopic analysis of morbid processes. This edition is an amplification of the material with these ends in view. Almost all the illustrations are in color. They are, however, not photomicrographs but are mostly drawings which at best are poor substitutes for reality. The book deals essentially with special pathology, and no attempt is made to present a general point of view. The author has given a brief and incomplete description of the normal structure of each organ, seemingly an unnecessary feature for the student, who presumably has studied histology before beginning his studies of pathology.
