RT Journal T1 You can sleep well: The a b c's of restful sleep for the average person JF Journal of the American Medical Association JO Journal of the American Medical Association YR 1939 FD May 20 VO 112 IS 20 SP 2089 OP 2089 DO 10.1001/jama.1939.02800200087037 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1939.02800200087037 AB The theory of sleep induced by relaxation is expounded by the author through the conversations of a mythical doctor and patient. The book is intended for laymen, although it is ironically stated in the preface that scientists and physicians may learn from it also. It is exceedingly difficult to review a work for popular consumption, especially one as breezily written as this, which skips lightly over controversial matters, conflicting evidence and other theories and which dogmatizes the author's own views. The lay reader is compelled to follow Jacobson's implied attitude of take it or leave it.
