AB This study of 101 tabetic patients is of little value to the clinician. Of the 262 pages of text, 160 are devoted to a survey of constitutional, individual and familial predisposing factors and thirty-eight to the effect of war service on the development of tabes. Only thirty-nine pages are given to clinical considerations and no space is allotted to treatment. On the whole, the monograph might more profitably have been presented as a series of short papers in the periodical literature. The conclusions, based on an elaborate presentation of individual case histories, tables and charts, are that the various factors of human constitution studied by the authors are not concerned in the pathogenesis of tabes, except bodily habitus, which is frequently of the asthenic type (though it is not made clear whether patients develop tabes because they are asthenic or become asthenic after they develop tabes) and "neuropathic constitution."
