AB This book accomplished a useful purpose. It tells in clear, succinct language of the handicaps and social disabilities of deafness and tersely may be summarized as presenting ways to alleviate incurable deafness. The deaf and the deafened, divided into class groups, are each accorded separate treatment in the text. The young of either sex who are becoming deaf, the middle aged with partial deafness, the child with defective hearing, and those born deaf each presents a different problem. The authors first present the problems with which each group is confronted and then they fully discuss in detail the steps to be undertaken to promote alleviation of the situation for each group. The book contains a great amount of first-hand study by the authors together with correlated scientific data not generally found collected in one volume.
