Dr. C. C. Twort, director of the Cancer Research Laboratories, states that since the publication of the last report a new test has been devised for assessing the toxicity of mineral oils. Having found a simple method by which the approximate carcinogenicity of a mineral oil could be rapidly ascertained—by examination of its refractive—they investigated how the animal cells reacted to oils and this brought the new test to light. The test shows not only the probable carcinogenicity of an oil but also its probable power of causing dermatitis.
