However, from the excess of 442,889 must be deducted the tranoceanic emigration amounting to 56,586, which leaves a net increase in population of 386,303. The population of the German reich, exclusive of the Saar region, on Dec. 31, 1928, was therefore 63,811,000, as compared with 63,424,000 at the beginning of the year.
