RT Journal T1 A manual of physiology with practical exercises. JF Journal of the American Medical Association JO Journal of the American Medical Association YR 1919 FD January 18 VO 72 IS 3 SP 216 OP 217 DO 10.1001/jama.1919.02610030062037 UL http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.1919.02610030062037 AB Professor Stewart points out in his preface that the war has had a withering influence on research in physiology. Nevertheless, considerable changes and additions have been made to his text, especially in the portions dealing with chemical phenomena of respiration, the functions of the endocrine organs, and metabolism. Some of the newer calorimetric work has also been adequately taken account of. Some of the older and less valuable illustrations have been omitted and new ones added. In deference to the opinion of many teachers, a bibliography has been inserted as an appendix. The book continues to be one of the standard textbooks on physiology.
