Physicians caring for children are fortunate to have several comprehensive textbooks available that present an in-depth discussion of clinical pediatrics. However, those textbooks are thousands of pages long, which makes them unwieldy for busy practitioners who need a quick, easy-to-read reference rather than an all-encompassing tome. The excellent sixth edition of Nelson Essentials of Pediatrics provides just the right amount of information for general inpatient and outpatient practitioners. The text combines the fundamentals of pediatric knowledge and up-to-date information about each area. It covers most of the topics discussed in the complete Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics but more concisely, in a little more than 800 pages. Although this book is written for medical students and pediatric house staff, practicing pediatricians in all settings will find it a practical and highly useful resource.
