This study confirms that living kidney donors during 1994 to 2009 had a normal life span (on average) when followed up for 1 to 15 years. Since chronic kidney failure is usually insidious in onset over a long period of time and silent without obvious signs and symptoms, I believe that the follow-up period needs to be extended to 20 years or longer to reassure younger kidney donors who expect to live another 30 or 40 years with only 1 kidney.
