Elkin expresses skepticism about our suggestion that alternative outcome measures might reveal larger differences between antidepressants and placebos in mild and moderate cases, given that such measures did not produce such a pattern in her study. We note, however, recent findings suggesting that antidepressants yield benefits for patients that extend beyond depression symptoms.1
